Chateaubriand fellowships

   


Any field is eligible (Exact and life Sciences, Medicine, Humanities and Social Sciences).

Since 1988, the French government has been funding Chateaubriand Fellowships. Those fellowships are aimed at encouraging and supporting mobility and exchanges of Israeli students and young resarchers to France. Thanks to them, more than 300 Israeli students and scientists had the opportunity to pursue research in France. 

Far from being simple grant holders, Chateaubriand Fellows benefit from the advantages available to French students: social security, access to university restaurants, lodgings on campus and more. Moreover, Chateaubriand Fellows are advised and helped by the French Consulate to obtain information about the conditions of entry and their stay in France.

From this year we offer two kinds of fellowships for very different profiles :

FELLOWSHIPS for STUDIES giving right to a DIPLOMA (MASTER or DOCTORAT)

Israelis who want to do their Master in France and can provide a registration proof from a French University. For Master students, candidate should be born after September, 1st 1990. For 2 years Master programs, the fellowships can be renewed for 1 additional year, in order to complete the program. A statement that the student is admitted in 2nd year + record of the first year's grades must to attached to the prolongation application and needs to be sent before the end of May, 2021 to contact@ambfr-il.org and to d.lebowitz@ambfr-il.org

Israelis who want to do their PhD in France and can provide a registration proof from a French Graduate School (école doctorale) or a letter from a thesis supervisor, affiliated to a French University. For PhD students, candidate should be born after September, 1st 1985. For PhD programs, the fellowships can be renewed up to 2 additional years, in order to complete the program. A letter from the student thesis director must to attached to the prolongation application and needs to be sent before the end of May, 2021 to contact@ambfr-il.org and to d.lebowitz@ambfr-il.org

* For both, the monthly fellowships amount is of 700 €. Once the student arrives to France, Campus France (French organization which takes care of your stay in France and your allowance) will take care of the paiment as well as of a health insurance for the whole period of the fellowships.

* For both, the studies will be carried out in a French University, a School of Engineering or a Public Research Laboratory.

* For both, the fellowships will last a full year, from September 1st, 2020 until August, 31st, 2021.

 

TRAINING RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS - HIGH LEVEL SCIENTIFIC STAY

Israeli scientists, who are currently studying for a Ph.D. in Israel or who have completed their Ph.D., and want to carry out research in a French research institution. The research will be carried out in a French University, a School of Engineering or a Public Research Laboratory.

These training research fellowships are for a period of minimum 4 months and up to 6 months. They are non-renewable and non splittable

For students who are currently studying for a Ph.D in an Israeli university and want to carry out research in France for a period of 4 to 6 months , the monthly fellowships amount is of 1704 €. Once the researcher arrives to France, Campus France will take care of the paiment as well as of a health insurance for the whole period of the fellowships. For PhD students, candidate should be born after September, 1st 1985.

For young researchers (who are up to 5 years after their Ph.D graduation) who want to carry out research in France for a period of 4 to 6 months , the monthly fellowships amount is of 1704 €. Once the researcher arrives to France, Campus France (French organization which takes care of your stay in France and your allowance) will take care of the paiment as well as of a health insurance for the whole period of the fellowships. For young researchers, candidate should be born after September, 1st 1980.

For researchers (who are more than 5 years after Ph.D graduation) and want to carry out research in France for a period of 4 to 6 months , the monthly fellowships amount is of 2055 €. Once the researcher arrives to France, Campus France (French organization which takes care of your stay in France and your allowance)will take care of the paiment as well as of a health insurance for the whole period of the fellowships. For researchers,  candidate should be born after September, 1st 1980.

 

* Researchers who do not have student status, will have to provide a valid employment contract or an attestation of fellowship  from their home institution in Israel, in order to carry out a mobility in their host laboratory in France.

* The fellowships laureates will have to start their stay in France no earlier than 1 September 2020 and no later than 31 December 2020. They will have to return to Israel no later than June 30, 2021.

 

Selection Process and Results :

The most important criterion of selection are excellent academic background of the candidate, scientific quality of the project, scientific quality of the host team, interest of the project for the French-Israeli scientific cooperation over the long term. The jury is composed of Israeli and/or French university professors under the chairmanship of the Scientific Attaché and results are sent to candidates by the end of April 2020.


Chateaubriand fellowships in a few figures :

  •   700 € per month for a Master or a PhD student - for a period of full 12 months of studying.
  • 1704 € per month for Israeli PhD students, affiliated to an Israeli Research Center and researchers, affiliated to an Israeli Research Center and up to 5 years after their graduation - for a period of 4 - 6 months of research.
  • 2055 € per month for Israeli researchers, affiliated to an Israeli Research Center and more than 5 years after their graduation -  for a period of 4 - 6 months of research.
  • Health insurance is provided by Campus France (French organization which takes care of your stay in France and your allowance)

Conditions :

  • All disciplines are eligible: Exact sciences, life sciences, medicine, humanities and social sciences.
  • Must have Israeli citizenship; Dual French-Israeli citizenship owners are not eligible to apply !
  • Have been accepted or invited by a French university, laboratory or research institute.
  • For researchers, should be able to provide a valid employment contract or a fellowship attestation with an Israeli research institution.

Age :

  • For Master students, candidate should be born after September, 1st 1990.
  • For PhD students, candidate should be born after September, 1st 1985.
  • For researchers,  candidate should be born after September, 1st 1980.

Diploma origin :

  • For FELLOWSHIPS for STUDIES
  • For Master sdents, candidate should have an Israeli B.A.
  • For PhD. students, candidate should have an Israeli Master.
  • For TRAINING RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS
  • For PhD. students, candidate must be registered for doctorate studies in an Israeli university.
  • For Researchers, no diploma origin conditions.

Additional Information :

The monthly allowance is payable in France and is not taxable. 

Lastly, at the end of your fellowships period in France, a report to the French Embassy in Israel is required regarding your stay in France: Scientific significance, probable future developments, comments on the reception/hospitality, etc. This document should be sent before the end of your fellowship.
